Ah, the white noise of possession, the gentle drone of "stuff." It's like a static that I couldn't hear because I was so used to hearing it all the time, but today, for the first time, I heard it.

In the pursuit of a quieter mind I've decided to whittle my life down to 100 things. Not a novel concept as I'm sure if you cuil the subject it'll return at least 10 other blogs of people who have chosen to test the lifestyle. The New York Times even ran an article on the Kerouac-inspired movement, following the different permutations the idea has taken on in real life. One woman counted things like categories (ie. 7 pairs of shoes was 1 "thing") but others have been able to follow the ideal to the letter.

So here's my deal. I'm moving in 2 weeks on August the 7th back into a single room. My plan is to get rid of 50% of all of my current possessions during that move. The second phase will be to reduce all the way to 100 in December, when I pack up and move to Doha. I will be giving away a lot of these items, selling some on the cheap and then donating the rest. I will keep a tally going here and if you see something that interests you, shoot me an email and I'll make sure to get it to you.

The purging is pretty extensive so be on the lookout for a lot of clothing, design mags, and to some lucky winner, an exorbitant number of Ikea organizers. So let the games begin.

PS. The blog thing is new. I deleted my Facebook profile (for a myriad of reasons) but if you're into the constant update thing, check here.
