MC Hammer is now on twitter. Insightful ruminations now available for public consumption include "...beautiful women ! I'm such a guy!!!" and " "Here Comes The Hammers." I thought about editing that last phrase to be grammatically correct but then I thought, why alter such obvious genius? Here is a man, bearing his soul one three-minute interval at a time, chaff and grain; who am I to edit that?

Twitter is a perfect example of my interest in social memes (or even just the word meme) especially those specific to the internets. This months Wired features Julia Allison of internet celebrity and her secrets of self-promotion. Twitter's 140-character blurbs provided the foundation to her success as she dashed off streaming thoughts to her less-than-adoring public. Here's what Wired had to say about posting a successful tweet:

"Every single Twitter post you write should be something that could get you laid, ruin a marriage, or bring a tear to a fat little kid's eye."

"Don't answer, "what are you doing?" Be funny. Be brief (duh). Leave your lunch unpublished. Ditto your late plane. Incomplete sentences."

"Twitter is a community. It's not all about you. Engage your peers by asking them questions. You don't have to actually read the answers."

To all of this I say- READ A BOOK. I'm off to facilitate a Last Lecture Discussion.
