It's been a while since I posted something that wasn't just a status update, but now that I've been in one place for more than 3 days I'm getting back to normal thought process beyond travel survival mode.

In my last post I mentioned an imaging process that I thought was called tilt angle which is actually tilt-shift. It's based on the Scheimpflug principle, which wikipedia says is a geometric rule that describes the orientation of the plane of focus of an optical system (such as a camera) when the lens plane is not parallel to the image plane.

The effect can be cheated by using the Lens Blur filter in Photoshop (Filter>Blur>Lens Blur). Here is what the image I took a few days ago would look like using that type of lens. This is a cheated version but after looking at some other examples on the interwebs I don't think I can tell the difference between real and fake anyways (especially when the output is toy looking.)

This inability to discern between real and fake, for me, is a larger issue actually. As with most things in my life, my opinion is pretty bi-polar and actually when reviewed in full, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

"Authenticity" is difficult because in some aspects of my life "fake" is a non issue. Recently a discussion on the merits of brownies baked from of box versus scratch revealed that I actually can't tell the difference (unless they are being directly compared) and am equally satisfied by both. 2% versus whole? No idea. Natural or silicon? Don't even want to know. But knock off couture is almost personally offensive and don't even get me started on the word facade...
