Images from the corniche. The word Cornish has its etymology in the French phrase route en corniche, meaning road (route) on (en) a rock ledge (corniche). The English word cornice has similar connotations. The cornish here has a see and be seen quality which is odd given nearly all the women are covered. It's also a great example of another perplexing social condition- hand holding. Public displays of affection are illegal here but hand holding skirts that line a bit. Between sexes, (male on female hand holding) is totally frowned upon, but within ones own sex, is totally acceptable- even common place. There were many men walking arm in arm or even hand in hand with fingers laces. Homosexuality is also illegal here but hand holding isn't considered gay. It's just a innocuous display of affection, bromance if you will. But holding a womans hand, well thats ridiculous.
