Bindt Ricco

Bindt means "daughter of" and prefaces your family name. Loosely it means girl but on the back of my jersey it prefaces my family name, printed in crimson and white, Qatar's national colors. I would love to take pictures to show you guys what my team looks like but it's really illegal (as the girls play uncovered.)

Actually, I found out just how illegal it is to take pictures of uncovered girls. Last week my team played Qatar University. It was a physical match but ultimately we won. The best part wasn't winning though- it was the girl fight that erupted shortly thereafter. You read it- girl fight. This was a stands-clearing brawl. A friend of mine on the team blogged on the incident, so rather than write it all out, you can just read what she wrote. Trust me, it's a great story. She and I managed to stay clear of the fist fighting but watching the whole thing was unreal. Since that game the spectators and the players have been sperated and some pretty strict rules regarding contact have been put in place. A bunch of our players got suspended and sadly, without them, we lost our first game yesterday. One of the girls on the team tried to take a picture with her camera phone, which is totally a no no. If kissing in public is punishable by whipping, I don't even want to know what the consequences are here for something that is prohibited by law.

Anyways, the point of this post was to bring to my list of things another new thing tied to my experience here. I now have my soccer kit, in Qatari national colors with my name, Bindt Ricco on the back and I absolutely love it.
